Toyota Night View System Can Recognize Pedestrians

Saturday, 31 May 2008

Toyota showed an interesting piece of technology in their Crown Hybrid Luxury sedan recently, and that is a night view system that can automatically recognize pedestrians on the road and draw outlines around them, alerting the driver to their presence. This would no doubt be great for pedestrian safety around crowded areas that shares with motor vehicles.

The system does have its limitations, for example it will not function if the vehicle is going more than forty MPH. However, in the case of sightseeing it could prove to be very advantageous. Toyota is working on improving the recognition to include bikes and animals as well, something that bicyclists and bicycle safety associations would no doubt embrace.
